The Oases of Egypt

10 nights 11 days

The Program

Day 1 :

Arrive Cairo where you will be met on arrival and taken for a 2 night stay at a 5* hotel in the Giza Pyramids area of Cairo, on a bed and breakfast basis.

Cairo is an amazing capital city and we have arranged for you to see all the most important sites

Day 2 :

Visit: The Giza plateau – the home of the Great Pyramids and the only present day survivor of the Wonders of the Ancient World, built over 4500 years ago.

The Sphinx, an ancient figure shrouded in legend and mystery.

Cairo Museum which houses over 200000 antiquities and of course the famous treasures of the Tutankhamun exhibition.

A stroll through the famous old bazaar of Khan El Khalili takes us to where we have lunch.

Day 3 :

We start our desert circuit.

The Western Desert is still a place of mysteries and legends, approx 1000km of road connecting Cairo and Asyut via the four oases offers one of the most exciting drives in Egypt

Arrive at Bahariya, having past the Black Desert so called as it is covered with black stone, staying at Peter hotel – basic but ok

Day 4 :

We visit the ancient tombs of Baharia Oasis and if possible we can have a look at the most famous archaeological discovery of the valley of the golden mummies.

Then we travel through the surreal landscapes of the White Desert to the Farafra Oasis. The most isolated and most beautiful of the Oases with only one inhabited village. We stay at the Aqua Sun hotel. – basic and ok.

The main attraction is undoubtedly the magnificent

White Desert with fantastic chalk sculptures, eroded by the wind, which change with the light from white to gold to deep purple at sunset.

Day 5 :

Driving in from the desert Dakhla Oasis appears as a feast of colours with vibrant green fields, red earth and a pink coloured escarpment. We stay at the 3* hotel of El Negoum Hotel for 2 nights. The hot springs here are recommended for rheumatism, colds and skin diseases.

Day 7 :

We arrive at El-Kharga Oasis where we stay at the 5* Pioneers hotel for 2 nights.

This makes a good base to explore some fine pharaonic and Christian ruins.

the Temple of Amun, Necropolis of El-Bagawat, Christians were buried in chapels with fine murals. The road to Baris follows the slave route that until 1884 crossed the desert from Darfur in the Sudan to Asyut.

Day 9 :

On the way to Luxor we have a look at the village of Hassan Fatehy and visit the temple of Elghouwita.     Arrive in Luxor where you will be taken to your hotel, Sheraton 5* or Mercure 4* for 2 nights.

Luxor has 17% of the monuments of the entire world.

Visit:                 Karnak Temple – which surpasses every other pharonic temple with over 40 hectares devoted to the gods. For 13 centuries successive pharaohs helped to make this the most magnificent temple complex in the country and in the entire ancient world.

Luxor Temple – is well preserved because it was mostly covered by sand until the 19th century when the houses of the town were slowly cleared away from it.

Colossi of Memnon – are 2 statues 19.5metres high which once guarded the gates of  a mortuary temple now sit peacefully amid the sugar cane fields.
